Save the Lane House!

We, the undersigned, support the historic designation and conditional use permit for the Lane House (625 8th Ave SE, Minneapolis) to ensure its preservation and future as a historic bed and breakfast.

Why is this important?

  • The Lane House is an irreplaceable landmark built in 1881 by James S. Lane, a key figure in Minneapolis’ industrial history.

  • The home has undergone a decades-long restoration effort and deserves protection.

  • Operating as a historic B&B aligns with city planning goals, provides a sustainable business model, and keeps the home accessible to the community.

 What are we asking for?

  •  We urge the City of Minneapolis to:

  1. Grant landmark designation to preserve the Lane House’s historic significance.

  2. Approve a conditional use permit to allow operation as a historic bed and breakfast, which would ensure financial sustainability.

  3. Allow historic variances that respect the home’s original layout, including maintaining guest kitchens and off-site management.
