​HISTORY
This Queen Anne beauty was built in 1881 by Lumberman James Sargent Lane.
Born 8/6/1833 in, New Brunswick, James spent his childhood learning the lumber trade. In 1852, He relocated to what is now the Minneapolis area with his brother Isaac and began working in the sawmills of Henry T. Wells. His parents and brother Leonidas followed shortly thereafter. In 1856, he built the dams and ran the first gang sawmill for the St. Anthony Falls Water power Company. Soon earning the governor's appointment as Surveyor General. Partnering with his brother Leonidas and two other businessmen, he spent many years building and rebuilding (logs have a tendency to burn) the sawmills that in turn, built Minneapolis.
James S. Lane was also 10th Worshipful Master of Cataract, Masonic Lodge #2, and Chief Engineer of the St. Anthony Falls Fire Department.
He married Aubine Dorman and had 6 children. Verna L. Lane (Kilgore) 1861-1912, Minnie King Lane 1863-1929, Elizabeth "Lizzie" May Lane (Rose) 1866-1938, Frank Silas Lane 1870-1911, Laura Emma Lane 1872-1940, and Markus Dorman Lane 1877-1959.
